Supplementary feed for dogs
Feeding recommendation: 1 - 1½ teaspoons* per 10 kg body weight daily
If necessary, the dosage can be increased to up to 2 teaspoons per 10 kg body weight.

napfcheck Senior feed oil can simply be mixed into the daily feed or given with a snack (e.g. piece of bread/rusk) - preferably divided into two doses.

Coconut oil / MCT oil
A natural source of medium-chain fatty acids (MCT) and, as a special MCT oil, particularly rich in caprylic acid. As a ketogenic alternative energy source, this supports cognitive abilities in old age (see below).
Wheat germ oil
Contains a lot of linoleic acid and plenty of vitamin E. These are particularly important for the skin barrier and coat shine in older animals, as well as for general immune defense and repair processes.
Milk thistle oil
Obtained by gentle cold pressing from the seeds of the milk thistle plant(Silybum marianum), known for its liver-protecting properties. The oil is particularly rich in important polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Medium-chain fatty acids(medium chain triglycerides) are abbreviated asMCTs and are only found in natural form in relevant quantities in coconut oil and palm kernel oil. These are saturated fats with a chain length of 6 to 12 carbon atoms. The most important MCTs are caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10).
The chain length of fatty acids determines how they are transported and metabolized in the body. In contrast to long-chain fatty acids, medium-chain fatty acids are not absorbed via the lymphatic system but directly into the bloodstream, transported to the liver and metabolized there particularly quickly into so-called ketone bodies. Basically, the shorter the chain, the faster the fatty acid can be converted into energy.
These ketone bodies formed from MCTs serve the body, especially the brain, as a quickly available source of energy and can therefore be used to support cognitive abilities, especially in older animals.
In (middle) age, the energy metabolism in the brain changes and, put simply, glucose (sugar) can be used less effectively. By administering MCT oils and the ketone bodies formed from them, the brain is provided with an additional second source of energy, a kind of additional tank.
The positive effect on the cognitive abilities of seniors has been scientifically proven (e.g. Pan et al. 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021). Significant differences were already recognizable and measurable after two weeks and even more clearly after four weeks.
